Director of Development

As Director of Development, Bill leads Northaven’s fund raising initiatives. Gifts from donors support the commitment of Northaven Assisted Living and Northaven Independent Living to provide housing and support services to low-income seniors. He has more than doubled fundraising for Northaven. 

His motto: “Donors are our heart. Their generosity sustains the vibrant community you can expect from living at Northaven.”

Bill has also been instrumental in strategic planning and helping to grow and reinvigorate the Board of Trustees. He is also leading Northaven’s building expansion process.

Before to coming to Northaven, Bill was the Major Gifts and Corporate Relations Officer at Senior Services (now Sound Generations) in Seattle.

Prior to fundraising in the aging services sector, Bill spent 18 years in private practice as a Licensed Psychologist in Minnesota. For five of those years, he was also the Executive Director and Lobbyist for the Minnesota Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. During that time, he developed and owned two critically acclaimed restaurants. Prior to that, he served in various positions as a Roman Catholic priest

Bill is currently a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Additionally he is president of the board of directors of Vashon HouseHold, a low-income housing provider, and a director on the board of LeadingAge Washington, a statewide professional association of not-for-profit senior housing providers.

Bill holds a bachelor's degree in education from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND, a master's degree in Theology from St. Johns University, Collegeville, MN and a master's degree in Human Development from St. Mary’s University, Minneapolis, MN, as well as a certificate in Corporate and Organizational Development from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. 

Bill lives on Vashon Island with his spouse of over 30 years, Norm Vork. When not working, Bill climbs mountains in the Pacific Northwest and around the world, cooks and gardens.
