Evelyn Delgadillo-Contreras is the newest member of our Board of Trustees. And she has a uniquely Northaven story.
Evelyn’s mother Rosa, an immigrant from Mexico, started working in our kitchen 21 years ago. She moved on to be a housekeeper and now supervises the housekeeping staff. Evelyn and her sister grew up at Northaven, running the halls and being loved by residents.
“We enjoyed coming to all the different BBQs and events that Northaven would put on. Our favorite event was when the pirates showed up at Northaven because we always received fun gifts,” Evelyn recalled with a laugh.
Both sisters worked as servers in the dining room during high school.
Evelyn attended the University of Washington on an academic scholarship and graduated this spring with a degree in Business Administration with a focus in Marketing and Information Systems. During her time at UW, she “loved taking on leadership positions because she wanted to give back to different communities that supported her during college.” In her first year of college, she interned at Northaven as an Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable intern. During her remaining three years of college, she studied while also being a leader at the Foster School of Business. She was a VP of Operations for the Association of Latino Professionals for America. She was a mentor to high school students at a program called Young Executives of Color. She taught them about the college application process and the different opportunities a business degree can give them. She also became a founder of a student organization called First Generation Business Leaders. Her passion for increasing diversity at UW inspired her to become a Student Ambassador for the Multicultural Outreach & Recruitment. If that wasn’t enough, she was also a career prep fellow for Management Leadership for Tomorrow, a national program. And now she has landed her first job as a Risk and Regulatory Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
“I will be working in the consulting line of service, providing companies with services on how to solve risk issues they might face,” she said.
At 23, she is our youngest board member ever and highlights our determination to diversify our board to make it look more like the America we now live in.
“I am honored that I get to be a part of the board and provide my insights, Evelyn remarked. “I am excited to give back to a community that’s given me and my family so much.”
“I am ecstatic about the effort that the board is making to diversify,” she continued. “Northaven holds a special place in my heart. I have been a part of this community for 21 years, and I loved seeing how much Northaven has grown and flourished to a fantastic place that holds excellent values.”
“I am grateful for all the memories I’ve made at Northaven and the many more I will create as a member of the Board of Trustees,” Evelyn concludes.
